Greetings all,
The following brief mini tutorial was actually quoted from a reply to a question in the Karma General Q/A forum. There is a great deal more involved with combi creation and I would seriously recommend Paul Osborn's Combi Creation Tutorial available here http://www.karma-lab.com/forum/showt...&threadid=984. However, for those who can only handle so much info, this mini tutorial will get you started. You can advance to more sophisticated programming after time and experience. You'll learn by doing, not by reading. So, copy the following. Print it so you can take to your Karma and try it out.

Quote:
If you want to set up a simple combi with one Module of drums running GE 1122 (for example) and one voice (program) armed so that you can play/improvise over top of the drums, then try the following:
1. Open an empty combi slot (eg C64 as you suggested).
2. Go to program 1 and select the sound you want to play or improvise with. In this case, you wanted B032 PopSynth Pad.
3. Now go to program 2 and select your drums. You wanted A004 ! Tricky Kit !.
4. Now hit Menu and go over to Prm1 and Open (F8). You should see that your pad is set to INT 01G (internal MIDI channel). Change that to Gch. Your drums are set to INT 02 (channel 2). Leave that as is and ignore the other programs and their settings for now.
5. Now hit Menu again and go over to KARM (F6). Open with F8.
6. Hit MIDI I/O (F2) and in Module A go over to OUT and change that to 02 (channel 2). This is going to be your drum module.
7. While still in KARM, go to Set Up (F1) and type in your GE, in this case, you wanted 1122.
8. Hit Menu again and under KARM, scroll down to KMdl, then Open with F8.
9. Hit F2 to open Tab Parm2. You want to set the Trigger Latch, so, beside Note, change Any to 1st (just use the Up Value key). You need to do this so that your drums do not retrigger when you play "Any" note. I'm assuming you want the drums to kick in on the first note or Chord Trigger and to remain in motion without retriggering.
10. Now Exit, then turn you KARMA ON/OFF and Latch ON.
That should get your started.

Did you read Paul's Tutorial as both Stephen and I recommended? You need to read it while working right at the Karma.

Now, the next thing you might want to do with this simple combi is to set up a few IFX for your drums and pad. I'll do this once, then you are going to have to read your manuals and work with them at the keyboard.
1. Hit Menu again and cursor over to IFX, then hit Open (F8)
2. Turn No 1 On. Then cursor over and type in 052 Rev Hall.
3. Next turn On No. 2 (cusor over and use the value keys).
4. Now go over and select 002 St. Compressor.
5. The next thing to do is to set the Route (F7).
6. Make sure No. 1 is darkened and use the Value key to line this up with IFX 1 052 Rev Hall.
7. Now scroll to No.2 till it darkens and use the Value key to line this up with IFX 2 002 St. Compressor.

This little tutorial should be enough to help you move beyond a simple 1 Karma Module combi using 2 IFX. You can experiment with different voicings, add a bass line in Module 2 (don't forget to set the channel and the note range (zone). Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eric
Have fun.
Cheers,
Eric
