Hi friends,
I'm looking for a volunteer willing to spend some time organizing all of the various sound sets available here into a simple list and a single directory, maybe combining them when a single individual has uploaded several individual programs (for example).
I would then make a master page/list, something like:
[collection name/download link] [short description] [author] [link to discussion thread]
I don't have time to do it myself, but it would certainly be helpful to everyone.
Here is an Excel spreadsheet showing all the pcgs, zips etc let me know if it was what you wanted, if not just expain what you want to see and I'll take care of it.
3 tabs: tab 1 all the M3 sounds from your site and the 2nd tab has the files from Irish Acts... 3rd tab I've added some Korg files as well.
ps Its in Excel 97-20003 format
regards
drdave.

Nice job, drdave!
For folks unfamiliar with sorting columns in a spreadsheet like this, If you select all of the data cells including the column headers, you can use Data > Sort and choose the column you want to sort the table under. For example, I like the M3 PCGs worksheet sorted by Author.
Nice List and holy shit do we have a lot of sounds
A good thing would to knwo in what bank the sound will be loaded... should I add this to the list or am I the only one that overwrites his own sounds ?

Exel 20003, do you live in the future
I always look inside any new PCG file before I load it into my M3. Then you know what the destination banks are and what might be overwritten. You can then make decisions about the type of load to use and can put the stuff in different destination banks/slots that you know are empty. I guess what I'm saying is it's very rare for me to just load the entire PCG file. I'm always loading only bits and pieces from inside the PCG file.
I might have read the tutorial about data mangament a billion times, but I've never read that I can open a .pcg file and load a single program out of it, I thought the "smallest" part I can load is a whole bank but I can open a bank and load a single program... that's excellent, I was looking for that feature such a long time, and I read tutorials, but I haven't found the function until now, and now I know how to load a single program out of a .pcg file...
BTW, I did a quick spreadsheet > CSV > text file > find/replace trickery transformation to produce an easy-to-read wiki version of the worksheet with all the downloadable community contributed combis.
Ideally, the entire community can keep this wiki version updated as new combis are made available to the community. Thanks for your hard work compiling the spreadsheet, drdave!
Awesome list, dave - thanks much! I've been so tied up with the whole web site transfer that I didn't have time to look at this.
Sadly, the upgrade to the new forum software has rendered all the attachment download links invalid. So someone will need to go through and find the new attachment links, especially since shannong just made it into a wiki article.
Sure, I'll take a stab at it later tonight if nobody else beats me to it. Thanks!
Future hint: you can always directly update wiki articles themselves instead of some external document like a spreadsheet. I know in this case there was already a nice base spreadsheet made by drdave , and the wiki syntax can seem daunting at first, so it was probably easiest to just redo the links in your copy of the spreadsheet.
But the more of us that get comfortable working in the wiki itself, the less I'll end up being a bottleneck for getting new information or updates out there for everyone!
Yes, you're right! I wasn't sure if I should directly update the wiki arcticle, and I decided to update first the exel document...
Yes, everbody who has a good article should post it in so the wiki will grow on, that's right!
The whole idea behind a wiki is that it is a community-authored resource. No one person owns any article in a wiki. If you ever see something that you think is incorrect or inaccurate, you can fix it right then and there. If you see something useful that can be added to an existing article, it's as easy pressing that "Edit" button and adding it yourself while its fresh in your mind.
I tend to use the Karma-Lab wiki as a place to keep notes that are useful for myself, after I've figured out something tricky with my M3 in my studio. It's easy to spend hours and hours figuring out how to make something work right, and if you don't make good notes, you'll have to go through that all over again next time around. The benefit is that I'm making those notes in a place that other people can see too. And they can expand on my notes or maybe even correct something I'm still doing "the hard way". And they're adding their own notes for things they've figured out how to do....
... and pretty soon, you have a great information resource that benefits everyone.
