Updated Information on the development of KARMA OL and release dates
Open Labs: AnnouncementsFind out about the latest announcements here regarding Open Labs Gen 5 Production Workstations - new videos, tutorials, software, OS updates, etc.
When I made the announcement about KARMA OL in January, it was with the understanding that Open Labs and myself had the whole arrangement fleshed out and just needed to finalize certain details and the legal agreement. However, while both parties have tried to work diligently on this, it has turned out to be far more complicated than anticipated, due in part to the fact that Open Labs has been refining the design of their products and which software components are to be bundled on the various systems that KARMA OL is supposed to be included with (including the 3 new products just announced for MESSE).
Meanwhile, I have been working daily on the KARMA OL version, in terms of the interface and various new features it includes over my previous versions of KARMA Software. But since KARMA OL voicing will depend on using the other included software components, I have not been able to proceed with the development of the KARMA-fied Performances, other than developmental testing.
So, while I remain optimistic that KARMA OL will still become a reality, at this time it is obvious that it will not be coming out on or around April 1st (as previously stated), or indeed even within the month of April. I sincerely apologize if this has inconvenienced anyone, and I must advise you that if you are considering purchasing an Open Labs product specifically because it will have KARMA OL as part of the system, I would hold off on this a bit until I can report that it is definitely going to happen and that the business arrangements have been finalized.
But let me share with you a letter from Hank Coleman, CEO of Open Labs:
Stephen:
I’d like to thank you for your patience as we have rolled out three product lines over the last three months with DBeat launching today at MusikMesse.
Jointly, we had set this date as our announcement date for KARMA OL as well, but due to no fault of yours, we’ve missed this deadline and for that we are truly sorry. What I don’t want your customers and audience to think is that this is some reflection on you or on KARMA. Nothing could be further from the case.
Our partnership with KARMA LAB is one of our prime priorities not just for us, but for all the creative musicians we both serve. We consider the inclusion of KARMA to be an absolute priority and only because there was not enough time for you to prepare, as you so meticulously do, we’ve had to postpone our announcement and launch due to the normal rigors and timelines which come with contracts, terms and conditions and all the other legal and product jargon which comes with such an important partnership.
Suffice it to say, we are laser-focused on getting this off the ground ASAP. Please place the responsibility for postponing such an important announcement solely on the Open Labs team and not on you.
We believe that the “open” KARMA product will help revolutionize the creative arena and we have every intention to help get it there and provide a platform for it to flourish.
Again, you’ve been a great partner to date and we would not want you to feel responsible in any way for this delay.
Sincerely,
Hank
J. Hamilton Coleman
CEO
Open Labs, Inc.
More information will be released here as soon as it is available. So thank you for your interest in KARMA OL and the Open Labs Products, and sincerest apologies for the delays as we get this partnership under way!
Stephen....
i know that you are well-aware of MY personal sentiments about this quite emotional subject
i'm ready to buy the NeKo XXL....
why on earth would any practicing pediatrician.... at age 46.....
who's been playing the piano and keyboard since age 4.... ever considering such a purchase?
who knows.....
but.....
if KARMA isn't in it....
it won't be in MY house
but.....
as i've said ad nauseum KARMA and The NeKo...
there's NO beating THAT combination
every once in a while a new product comes along that CHANGES EVERYTHING
i truly believe that Open Labs is making SUCH products
and.....
i guarantee that Korg, Roland, and Yamaha (etc.) have sat up and taken notice
if they don't create a keyboard that can play a VST and VSTi, NATIVELY.... pretty soon...
good luck to them
IMHO, of course
in the end......
Victor Wong at OL knows how important THIS is
the best of luck to you....
as always
Keep you hopes up, I just recived words from Open Labs that there will be Karma on both the L and the E series. A littel later than planed, but it will be there.
3rd quarter of this year will be a god time to look for it.
