Can't Stop Da Nod 134 BPM - 4/4 UK Garage/House Keyboard
hand diagram
This up-tempo 90's UK Garage/House Performance features a typical upbeat Garage/House analog drum groove with claps and skipping snare, a rhythmic organ-bass pattern which provides an authentic 90's Garage sound, a simple vintage E.Piano chord-stab which works well rhythmically with the drum and bass groove, a rhythm randomizing synth-brass stab with KARMA panning, and a busy synth arpeggio pattern triggering a vintage mono-synth lead timbre (which is muted in the wake-up Scene). The Fill button triggers a complimentary swinging snare and acoustic toms fill, with many variations in the scenes.

The LH/KARMA area provides an evocative piano pad layer with an element transposed by a fifth, while the RH provides two different polyphonic keyboard voices for your soloing pleasure, controlled by A.Sw2: an acoustic piano/strings layer, and a clicky jazz organ with high tonewheel grease. A.Sw1 removes the strings from the piano layer, and removes the upper tonewheels from the jazz organ. In this Performance, the A.Switches are not set to be stored in the scenes, so they can be freely toggled on and off at any time without scene changes affecting them.
Left Hand: Fifths piano pad
Right Hand: Piano/Strings layer (A.Sw2 = off)
Clicky jazz organ (A.Sw2 = on)
A.Sw1 = remove strings/upper tonewheels

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger an analog synth pattern with a "wah" effect, while Pads 13 to 16 trigger a resonant clav pattern - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and shut each other off, courtesy of the Chord Trigger exclusives - try alternating between them, for example, Pad 9 and Pad 13.
  • Turn off Master Layer Switch 5 "Step Transpose Pattern" to remove the +2 transposition in the fourth bar of the pattern.
  • Various parts are muted in different scenes; unmuting them uncovers additional variations.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - suitable for a breakdown, with repeated drum pickup figure, simple offbeat root bass notes, L/R synth brass, steady e.piano chords, muted arpeggio; syncopated panning high-pitched snare and toms fill ending in bell-tree
Scene 2 (simpler) - a different sort of breakdown, with the focus on a busy comping e.piano part, backed with bongos, congas and hi-hats, simple bass notes and L/R synth brass chords; rising pitch-bending snare and toms fill
Scene 3 (simpler) - back-beat open hi-hat and claps, simple root bass notes, octave jumping e.piano chords, L/R synth brass, arpeggio enters playing an accented single-note pattern; rising panning pitch-bending toms and snare fill with repeats
Scene 4 (startup) - the basic full groove, arpeggio part muted; straight snare and toms fill
Scene 5 (busier) - congas added, hi-hat stays closed, arpeggio is introduced doing a syncopated line with space alternating with a busier L/R synth brass comping, tight e.piano chords; pitch-bending downwards panning snare and toms fill ending in vibraslap
Scene 6 (busier) - back to the open hi-hat, congas variation, busier bass, e.piano adds octave repeats of chords, arpeggio goes higher and busier, L/R synth brass stays simple; panning pitch-bending downwards snare and toms fill with tight repeats
Scene 7 (busier) - drums move to the ride cymbals, bass moves off of root, e.piano drops out, arpeggio takes focus with syncopated climbing riff, L/R synth brass jumps to the front; panning snare and toms fill
Scene 8 (busiest) - drums go back to the startup groove but with claves and congas, bass stays on root, synth brass takes over the ascending climbing riff, while the arpeggio plays descending straight quarter notes, single e.piano chord hit on four with subtle bend; panning pitch-bending snare and toms fill with repeats
