Cosmic Strut 106 BPM - 4/4 Techno/Pop Slow Synth
hand diagram
This mid-tempo Techno/Pop Performance features a bouncing strut-like groove, consisting of a solid 4/4 Techno/Disco shuffle drum groove with open hi-hats, a simple synth bass pattern doing octave jumps, a rhythmic analog synth pattern using a plucked saw wave patch (Synth Comp), a melodic analog synth pattern again using a plucked saw wave type patch (Synth Riff), and a gated synth pattern using an analog vocoder simulation patch for a talking synth effect. The Fill button triggers a matching snare and toms fill with many variations in the scenes.

The LH/KARMA area provides a slowly sweeping band-pass analog synth pad - use the sustain pedal to latch it. Rather than the usual mono synth lead to conflict with all the activity that KARMA is already generating, a mellow polyphonic synth pad with a synth-voice/whistle character is provided for playing melody lines in the RH area - A.Sw1 lengthens the portamento time to a longer gliding effect.
Left Hand: Sweeping band-pass synth pad
Right Hand: Mellow synth-voice/whistle synth pad
(polyphonic) - A.Sw1 = portamento time

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger a trancey riff and Pads 13 to 16 trigger a portamento dance riff - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and shut each other off, courtesy of the Chord Trigger exclusives - try alternating between them, for example, Pad 9 and Pad 13. The end of a fill has also been set to stop the arps, in addition to the usual scene changes.
  • A.Sw2 modulates resonance and the talking modulator effect on the Gated Synth for an alternate sound.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - simple shakers and single bass notes, synth comp takes the focus with an ascending riff punctuated by several loud notes, synth riff plays a syncopated two-note phrase, single backbeat on the gated synth; high-pitched panning fill with thight delays ending in vibraslap
Scene 2 (simpler) - shakers and tambourine, sparse bass octaves, synth comp starts a steady drone, synth riff plays simple root/fifth/octave, gated synth does L/R sparse chords; syncopated snare and toms fill ending in metallic clang
Scene 3 (simpler) - congas and hi-hats added, bass does alternating quarter note octaves, synth comp dones adds bending, synth riff does a tow note riff with fading in-and-out-velocities, steady gated synth with alternating octaves; syncopated pitch-bending snare and toms fill ending in kick
Scene 4 (simpler) - four-on-the-floor kick and open hi-hats with snare noise slap, bass continues alternating octaves with some pick-up notes, synth comp, synth riff and gated synth open up some space from previous scene; panning pitch-bending syncopated snare and toms fill
Scene 5 (simpler) - sidestick and rides added, syncopated bass riff with octaves, sparse notes on synth comp, synth riff plays backbeat reggae-like two-note pattern, gated synth pans L/R in between; ascending pitch-bending snare and toms fill
Scene 6 (startup) - the basic full groove; syncopated snare and toms fill
Scene 7 (busier) - percussion changes to clave and bongoes, bass doubles up, synth comp and synth riff play busier variations, gated synth jumps to a higher open voicing; busier syncopated snare and toms fill
Scene 8 (busiest) - arpeggiated pitch-bending and tight delays on the drums with some serious low end, bass adds some subtle bending, synth comp plays a syncopated phrase, synth riff adds some bending; thundering ascending pitch-bending snare and toms fill with tight delays
