Darkness Falls 82 BPM - 4/4 Hip-Hop Lead Synth
hand diagram
This heavier Hip-Hop Performance focuses on orchestral instruments for a strident classical flavor, with a solid Led Zep "When The Levee Breaks" drum groove and simple kick accentuating synth-bass pattern bring up the bottom. A brass and strings section supplies bold fast-played stabs, an octave string section provides a melodic line punctuated with single staccato notes, and a simple tubular bells pattern accents the beginning of every 1st and 3rd bar. The Fill button triggers a drum fill that provides in many scenes a "breakdown" to a hi-hat, with some randomized record-scratching at the end, and in other scenes some randomized rock toms fills.

A cutting analog saw lead is provided for soloing in the RH which can be kicked up an octave to really scream by A.Sw2, while A.Sw1 alters the cutoff and resonance of the lead sound for a different character. There are only four chords provided on the first four Chord Trigger pads; Pads 9 to 12 supply heavy distorted guitar chords in four descending scale steps based on the last played chord and Pads 13 to 16 provide guitar slides and noises to be used with the four guitar chords. Finally, Pads 5 to 8 provide four record scratches to inject into the mix.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - very minimal activity on all modules, suitable for a breakdown or intro, simple shakers and single root bass notes, root-fifth riff on brass, strings riff takes center stage, slow bend on the bell, just because we can ;-) sparse, fast-delay toms fill
Scene 2 (simpler) - the percussion groove picks up, kicks and hi-hats added, along with more activity in the other parts, brass/str plays a high arpeggiated pattern, sparse string notes, dotted-eighth tubular bells; sporadic delayed pitch-bended toms on the fill
Scene 3 (simpler) - the energy goes up a bit with the kick, tambourine and hi-hats and doubled bass notes, a lower brass/str riff, and a strings variation - basically a simplified version of the startup groove; randomized syncopated kick and toms fill
Scene 4 (startup) - the basic full groove; hi-hat breakdown fill with record scratches
Scene 5 (busier) - the bass and drums kick it up with more syncopation and activity, the strings add additional downbeat strokes, the brass plays a higher variation, tubular bells add some notes; hi-hat breakdown fill with record scratches
Scene 6 (busier) - the drums move to the ride and percussion adds a conga groove, the bass alternates root and 5th, the brass/strings and strings patterns get busier; busier 16th-note toms fill
Scene 7 (busier) - the drums really kick it up, moving to a different snare and adding some syncopated back beats, along with different percussion with a tambourine groove; strings do a variation of the start up scene with more downbeats, extra tubular notes; busier 16th-note toms fill
Scene 8 (busiest) - the drums add arpeggiated pitch bend, the bass adds bending, while the tubular bells introduce a downwards riff; the brass and strings play phrases with some space in the to allow focus on the drum groove; wild panning toms fill with tight delays
