Hidden Connections 134 BPM - 4/4 Euro-Trance Lead Synth
hand diagram
This bubbling mid-tempo "Euro-Trance" Performance features lots of retro analog synths, with a Techno drum groove firing analog drum-machine samples, a simple pulsing offbeat techno style synth-bass, a choppy comping chord synth with a phaser effect (Synth 1), a retro polysynth arpeggio with a distinct Jean-Michel Jarre flavor (Synth 2), and a bouncing square wave synth pattern which ping-pongs across the stereo spectrum courtesy of a fast moving KARMA pan pattern (Synth 3). The Fill button triggers a matching analog drum kit fill with different variations in the scenes.

A slowly rising filter-sweep pad is provided in the LH area, while the RH area provides two different synth leads, controlled by A.Sw2: a square wave lead and a warm techno lead with ribbon filter sweep. The settings of A.Sw2 have been set to be stored in the scenes, so you'll find the techno lead in Scenes 1, 2 and 8, with the square wave lead in the others. A.Sw1 kicks either lead sound up an octave. Listen out for Scene 8, which instead of being the busiest is a half-time breakdown that takes you into pseudo-reggae territory, courtesy of the Rhythm Multipliers on Master Layer switches 1~5.
Left Hand: Slowly rising synth pad
Right Hand: Square wave lead (mono) (A.Sw2 = off)
Techno ribbon lead (mono) (A.Sw2 = on)
A.Sw1 = octave up

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger a portamento synth acid riff, while Pads 13 to 16 trigger a gated hi-pass synth pattern - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and can be layered on top of each other.
  • You can store which lead sound you want to use in each scene because the "Assignable Switches In Scenes" checkbox is on under A.Sw2 in the Real-Time Controls Editor. If you'd prefer to not have the scenes change the lead sound, uncheck the checkbox and A.Sw2 is under manual control.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - minimal activity on most parts, simple shaker, root bass note, scalic arpeggio on synth 1 takes center stage, while synths 2 and 3 provide simple 8th note plucks; half-time pitch-bend snare/kick fill
Scene 2 (simpler) - hi-hat, shaker and tamb percussion, bass adds octave upbeat on 4, more activity on all parts, especially synth 3 with all three synths provided an intricate plucked counterpoint; triplet bending snare/kick fill
Scene 3 (simpler) - kick enters four-on-the-floor, bass picks up with a backbeat pattern; interesting melodic figure with bend on synth 3, reggae-like phrase on synth 1, synth 2 provides a string-like line; pitch-bending panning kick/snare/hi-hat fill
Scene 4 (simpler) - getting closer to the startup scene in activity and flavor, half-note kick and backbeat open hi-hat, backbeat bass with octaves, synth 3 continues reggae-like phrase; echoing toms fill
Scene 5 (startup) - the basic full groove, bubbly and effervescent, kick/snare fill
Scene 6 (busier) - drums move to sidestick and ride, while the bass doubles up with octaves, all three synths change variations providing an intricate yet open counterpoint; syncopated randomized snare and toms fill
Scene 7 (busiest) - pitch-bending and upbeat claps on the drums, unique bending octave bass with open space, heavy percussion, busier interweaving synth parts; panning snare and toms fill
Scene 8 (breakdown) - half-time rhythm multipliers on the pitch-bending drums and synths 1 & 3 result in a reggae feel, open bass with repeating octaves, synth 2 provides the syncopated melody; fast-delay toms fill
