Slap In Yo Face 100 BPM - 4/4 Funk/Industrial Lead Synth
hand diagram
This two drum-kit up-tempo Industrial Funk Performance features a cool distorted and aggressive sounding analog synth bass simulating a slapped electric bass guitar. Drums 1 provides a funky groove with open/muted triangle and congas, Drums 2 provides a more rock-flavored groove with ambient snare and cowbell, while a busy gated synth pattern drives a tight-release saw-wave patch and a simple synth stab/riff drives a techno/trance type analog patch - all combining into a very dark and evil sounding groove. The Fill button triggers a heavy matching snare and toms fill with different variations in the scenes.

A fat analog synth pad is provided in the LH/KARMA area, while an analog fifths lead with a touch of distortion in the IFX and portamento (time controlled by A.Sw2) is provided for soloing in the RH area - drop it down an octave with A.Sw1. A fairly normal minor chord progression starts on the first four Pads, but check out the positively evil ascending chords on Pads 5 to 8 that resolve back to the first chord.

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger a saw wave riff with portamento and Pads 13 to 16 trigger a square wave riff - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and shut each other off, courtesy of the Chord Trigger exclusives - try alternating between them, for example, Pad 9 and Pad 13.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - tambourine and cowbell, a L/R alternating gated synth part, single root notes and octaves on the bass and synth; pitch-bending toms and snare fill with slow delays ending in a vibraslap
Scene 2 (simpler) - hi-hats are added, the bass moves to a dotted-8th root note, gated synth stays centered while the synth plays an arpeggiated pattern; pitch-bending toms and snare fill
Scene 3 (simpler) - kicks and snare noise join the mix, the bass begins doing a more interesting pattern with bends, gated synth opens up space with short L/R stabs, arpeggiated simple synth pattern; pitch-bending snare/toms fill with fast delays
Scene 4 (simpler) - a slightly less busy version of the next scene, with snares joining the drum groove in an interesting syncopated beat, spitting gated synth part, while the synth moves to chordal stabs; straight snare and toms fill
Scene 5 (startup) - the basic full groove; straight snare and toms fill
Scene 6 (busier) - the drums get heavier, moving to the rides with more activity, bass w/octave notes variation, L/R gated synth pattern up an octave, portamento stabs on the synth; busier snare and toms fill
Scene 7 (busiest/double-time) - double-time variation with snare noise on the drums, bass simplifies to kick-accentuating root note, synth plays a new arpeggiated pattern; super-fast snare and toms fill
Scene 8 (half-time/breakdown) - a half-time variation with arpeggiated pitch-bending on the drums, an open bending bass, a spitting synth note pattern, gated synth with bends; rising pitch-bending fill with fast delays
