Space-Junk Funk 98 BPM - 4/4 Funk-Rock/Pop Lead Synth
hand diagram
This mid-tempo double drum-kit Funk-Rock/Pop Performance has a spacey synth backdrop and is another that features KARMA Wave-Sequencing to good effect. It consists of a suitably solid and funky drum groove which is made up from two separate drum patterns working in parallel (Drums 1 & Drums 2) - the first having an electronic "Drum Machine" sounding quality and the second having more of a breakbeat/sample-loop type sound. A funky slap-bass pattern with a nice distorted edge is laid on top along with a bubbly, ambient synth pattern which uses a voice that triggers a range of different synth timbres at different velocities. The previously mentioned KARMA Wave-Sequence pattern can produce a whole range of cool variations, especially using Master Layer Slider 8 which selects between a variety of different velocity patterns. The Fill button triggers a complimentary snare and toms fill with different variations in the scenes.

An organ-like pad in fifths is provided in the LH/KARMA input area (A.Sw1 adds an extra layer to it), while a wicked "sync" style synth lead with portamento is provided in the right hand area of the keyboard for soloing (and A.Sw2 transposes it down an octave to allow you to get into the lower ranges).
Left Hand: Organ fifths pad
(A.Sw1 = extra layer)
Right Hand: Sync lead (mono) w/portamento
(A.Sw2 = octave down)
Split Points: * B2/C3
Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps are utilized: Pads 9 to 12 provide a simple synth arpeggio while Pads 13 to 16 provide a gated voice-synth pattern - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and can be layered on top of each other. In addition to the usual latching and shutting off by Exclusive and Scene Change, the two Motif Arps have also been set up to be ended by the end of the Drum Fill.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - low level of activity in all modules, pitch-bending percussion from drums 1, drums 2 muted, single bass notes, cool wave-sequencing; pitch-bending panning delayed fill ending with vibraslap
Scene 2 (simpler) - activity picks up a bit with the synth module taking center stage, tambourine and hi-hats, more wave-sequencing, open octaves bass line; high-pitched panning fill
Scene 3 (simpler) - the bass gets more active from the previous scene, with the wave-sequencing doing a steady pattern with changing waves; simple syth pattern with velocity-randomized waves; randomized panning syncopated fill
Scene 4 (simpler) - the kick is added; busier and similar to the startup scene with some activity removed, busier slappy bass line; solid syncopated open fill
Scene 5 (startup) - the basic full groove; syncopated snare and toms fill
Scene 6 (busier) - Master Layer Slider 5 at the min setting adds additional SFX and noises to the drums, the bass gets more syncopated and other parts get busier, 16th notes percolating synth pattern; busier snare/kick/hi-hats fill
Scene 7 (busiest) - increased activity on the drums, moving to the rides, full-on wave-sequencing assault pattern, syncopated bass variation, synth pattern adds some scale tones; panning solid snare and toms fill
Scene 8 (half-time) - a heavy half-time variation using the Rhythm Multipliers, with an ethereal synth pattern, bass more solid on octaves, alternate wave-sequencing pattern; panning fill with fast triplet delays
