Blue Sabbath Cult 122 BPM - 4/4 Rock/Classic Organ
hand diagram
This mid-tempo Classic Rock style Performance is inspired by two of the most influential heavy rock bands of the 1970's: Black Sabbath and Blue Öyster Cult. The main riff (picked overdrive electric guitar) is reminiscent of BÖC's 70's classic (Don't Fear) The Reaper, while the rest of the Performance taken as a whole sounds like a cut from Black Sabbath's heavy metal tour de force from 1973: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (check out "Looking For Today" from this excellent classic rock album). There's a suitably straight-forward and meaty sounding heavy rock drum groove with subtle randomized drum hits and tambourine/shakers, a solid driving electric bass guitar pattern with subtle note randomization playing 16ths, the previously mentioned distorted main guitar riff/picked arpeggio, again with subtle note randomization, a dancing hypnotic synth pattern with random filter modulation, (a nod in the direction of another mega classic rock band: The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again") and a simple but effective power-chord/rhythm guitar pattern with subtle rhythm randomization. On the Fill button, a special Fill GE created for this Performance features thundering floor toms in various scenes by using Melodic Repeat in a unique way. (And be sure to check out Scenes 6,7 & 8 for some rocking alternatives to wake-up Scene 5).

A heavily distorted rock organ is provided in the right hand span of the keyboard for soloing, which can be switched to a mono saw-synth lead (via A.Sw2) for a completely different soloing experience - A.Sw1 lessens the distortion on the organ or drops the synth lead down an octave. In this Performance, the A.Switches are not set to be stored in the scenes, so they can be freely toggled on and off at any time without scene changes affecting them - so you'll find the organ lead in all scenes.
Left Hand: Dark organ pad
Right Hand: Distorted rock organ (poly) (A.Sw2 = off)
Sawtooth synth lead (mono) (A.Sw2 = on)
Split Points: * B2/C3
Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger an additional distorted rhythm guitar pattern (panned right) while Pads 13 to 16 trigger a second complimentary distorted* rhythm guitar pattern (panned left) - both of which have different scale steps based on the last-played chord and can be layered on top of each other. *No distortion on MOX version due to IFX limitations.
  • If you'd like the scene changes to change the lead sound, turn on the "Assignable Switches In Scenes" checkbox under A.Sw2 in the Real-Time Controls page.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - shaker and tambourine, single open notes on the bass, guitar riff and power chords working together to create an open echoing effect, with a chattering synth backdrop; panning and pitch-bending syncopated snare and toms fill
Scene 2 (simpler) - kick drum is added to percussion, bass doubles up on the single notes, while the guitar riff plays an ascending scale and the power chords trade-off and echo it over a variation in the synth backdrop; panning and pitch-bending syncopated snare and toms fill
Scene 3 (simpler) - drums move to sidestick, while the rest of the parts are more like an alternate variation with a choppy syncopated guitar riff, simple alternating power chords, single notes on the bass, and the chattering synth backdrop; snare and toms fill variation
Scene 4 (simpler) - a breakdown of the startup groove, with simpler drums, simpler bass with space, simpler guitar riff, alternating left and right power chords; simpler synth part; thundering snare and toms fill
Scene 5 (startup) - heavy rock drums, driving eighth-note bass pattern, anthemic guitar line, alternating left and right power chords, interlaced with a chattering synth backdrop; thundering snare and toms fill
Scene 6 (busier) - drums move to the ride, variation in the driving bass pattern, syncopated variation in the guitar riff, chattering synth up an octave; thundering snare and toms fill variation
Scene 7 (alternate) - more open rock groove adding cowbell with a syncopated bass line, more space in the guitar riff, no transpositions in the guitar chords phrase; busier snare and toms fill
Scene 8 (alternate) - a different more open hard rock groove with pickups in the drums, syncopated bass line and guitar riff, a more apparent chattering synth, no transpositions in the guitar chords; panning and pitch-bending snare and toms fill
