This fast-tempo Drum'n'Bass Performance has a spacey atmosphere in the earlier scenes and frenetic activity in the later scenes, courtesy of a very busy Drum'n'Bass drum groove with KARMA randomization and some added tempo delay effect, a 101-wave sub-bass pattern with filter modulation and lots of KARMA randomization, an electric piano pattern that generates cascades of piano notes with added repetitions, a busy staccato comping synth-piano pattern (turn off Master Layer Switch 4 "Phrase Mute On/Off [4]" for a more continuous pattern), and a simple synth-bell melody with plenty of space and atmosphere (raise Slider 4 "Velocity Accents" in RT Control Layer 5 to fill up the space with more notes). A crescendoing, panning machine gun snare fill is provided on the Fill button that has many variations including a few with toms as well.

The LH/KARMA area provides a warm PWM synth pad with a flanger effect (no flanger on MOX version due to IFX limitations), while the RH provides two completely different synth voices for soloing, controlled by A.Sw2: an eerie polyphonic spectrum pad (A.Sw2 = off), and a monophonic dual square wave lead with slight portamento (A.Sw2 = on). A.Sw1 transposes both leads up an octave for extended soloing range. You'll find that the odd-numbered scenes call up the spectrum pad, while the even-numbered scenes call up the square lead - courtesy of the "Assignable Switches In Scenes" checkbox. And listen out for Scene 8 which subdues the pace of the Performance dramatically with a laid-back half-time drum groove.

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger a busy resonant synth arp, while Pads 13 to 16 trigger an offbeat techno style synth stab - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and shut each other off, courtesy of the Chord Trigger exclusives - try alternating between them, for example, Pad 9 and Pad 13. To allow the arps to be layered on top of each, change the Ex1 checkboxes to Ex2 for Chord Triggers 9 to 12 in the Chord Trigger Editor.
  • You can store which lead sound you want to use in each scene because the "Assignable Switches In Scenes" checkbox is on under A.Sw2 in the Real-Time Controls Editor. Turn this off to allow scenes to be changed freely while keeping the current lead sound.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - lots of space with shakers and triangle, long root bass note with up pitch-bend, bells and e.piano alternate simple phrases over a 4-bar length while the syn-piano does an every other bar motif in the background; fast 8th-note toms fill with panning and downward bend envelope ending in bell tree
Scene 2 (simpler) - prominent hand drums pattern takes focus along with a complimentary repetitive pattern on the syn-piano, short open notes on the bass with bend, e.piano cascades every 4 bars, low sustained background notes from the bells with downward pitch-bend; interesting looped pitch-bend on the panning toms fill gives it a unique sound
Scene 3 (simpler) - shakers and hi-hats while the bass plays an ascending motif that alternates with rapid stacatto chords on the syn-piano, and the bells play a random four notes every 8 bars and the e.piano does scalic icing on top; interesting looped pitch-bend on the snare fill gives it a unique sound
Scene 4 (simpler) - kick is added to the shakers and hi-hats from the previous scene, while the bass moves to doing a simple whole-note based phrase, the e.piano plays an ascending cascade of notes every 4 bars, and the bells plays every 8 bars; crescendoing high-pitched snare-fill
Scene 5 (startup) - the basic opening groove with frenetic d'n'b drums, heavily randomized syncopated sub-bass line, cascading e.piano notes every 4th bar, stacatto syn-piano chords, and a four-note bell line every 8 bars; crescendoing machine gun snare with pitch-bend envelope
Scene 6 (busier) - drums move to ride cymbals and add more percussion, bass line picks up with a straighter rhythm and some pitch-bending, variation on the cascading e.piano notes every 4 bars, syn-piano does a cyclic riff like a swarm of bees while the bells invert and play a randomized four-note phrase every 4 bars; crescendoing machine-gun snare with rising pitch-bend envelope and panning
