Go with the flow 110 BPM - 4/4 Funk/Pop Lead Synth
hand diagram
This mid-tempo Funk/Pop Performance has a modern electronic flavor and a great groove to jam over, featuring a modern-sounding funky drum groove with subtle drum hit randomization (and arpeggiated pitch bend in the startup scene on all sounds except the kick), a funky electric bass guitar pattern with some subtle rhythm and note randomization, a distorted* Wurlitzer electronic piano pattern that adds heavily randomized chord stabs panned to the right of the stereo field, a panning gated organ-synth pattern with some slight rhythm randomization (turn off Master Layer Switch 4 "Phrase Mute On/Off [4]" for a more continuous gated pattern with added Step Transpose), and a left panned resonant plucky synth pattern with randomized filter effects. A suitably randomized snare and toms fill with different variations in each scene is provided on the Fill button.

The LH/KARMA input area provides a motion synth pad, while the RH area serves up two different soloing monophonic synth leads controlled by A.Sw1: a mellow and expressive analog synth lead (A.Sw1 = off) and a brighter rising mini moog synth lead (A.Sw1 = on) - both of which can have an additional oscillator tuned down a fourth added by A.Sw2 for a more progressive sound. In this Performance, the A.Switches are not set to be stored in the scenes, so they can be freely toggled on and off at any time without scene changes affecting them.
Left Hand: Motion pad
Right Hand: Mellow analog lead (mono) (A.Sw1 = off)
Rising mini lead (mono) (A.Sw1 = on)
A.Sw2 = add fourth to either sound

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger a heavily chorused* fingerpicked electric guitar pattern (panned left), while Pads 13 to 16 trigger an 80's flavored staccato polysynth pattern (panned right) - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and can be layered on top of each other.
  • Tone 1 Knob 8 adds an interesting beat-synchronized delay effect to the Drums/Perc and Fill, in addition to increasing the amount of delay on the RH synth lead sounds.

  • *Some effects not available on MOX version due to IFX limitations.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - hand drums with arpeggiated pitch bend, sparse bass with lots of open space and some bends, organ-synth takes the focus with a rhythmic chopping pattern that alternates various transpositions, while the e.piano plays single sparse high notes and the syn-pluck plays a single echoing chord; quarter-note snare and toms fill with tight repeats and pitch bend envelope
Scene 2 (simpler) - perc adds shaker to hand drums, bass stays open and sparse, e.piano takes over the focus with a busy 16th-note arpeggiated pattern while the organ-synth start alternating with bars of silence and the syn-pluck plays single scalic notes; panning snare and toms fill with high pitch envelope and dotted-8th note cascading repeats
Scene 3 (simpler) - kick and hi-hats added to percussion while the bass gets a little funkier, the syn-pluck takes the focus with busy clusters of chords hile the e.piano plays widely-spaced upbeat stabs and the organ-synth chops a different variation; panning randomized snare and toms fill with high downwards pitch envelope
Scene 4 (simpler) - a simplified version of the startup scene, with sidestick on the drums instead of snare, more space in the bass line, while the organ-synth and the syn-pluck essentially trade-off every other bar and the e.piano adds upbeat stabs; panning randomized snare and toms fill with downwards pitch envelope
Scene 5 (startup) - the basic full groove featuring funky bass and arpeggiated pitch-bend drums and perc, randomized e.piano chords, panning gated organ synth alternating with bars of silence and the syn-pluck tossing in some echoing chords; randomized snare and toms fill
Scene 6 (busier) - drums move to the ride while the bass adds some extra notes and bends to the original line, e.piano gets busier with more frequent stabs, organ-synth switches to restrikes instead of chopping while the syn-pluck gets busier and more scalic; panning randomized snare and mainly toms fill
Scene 7 (busier) - drums move to the clap and hi-hat instead of snare and add different perc while the bass plays a staggered more syncopated line, the e.piano takes the focus with a repetitive two-note figure, the organ-synth changes to a busier chopping pattern and plays in all measures while the syn-pluck plays some cascading melodic repeats; syncopated panning randomized snare and toms fill with slight downwards pitch envelope
Scene 8 (busiest) - a crazy torrent of sound with the drums/perc at half-time playing a barrage of metallic sounds with arpeggiated pitch-bending, a different sycopated staggered bass line, high-octave e.piano stabs, organ synth randomized stabs with alternating transpositions, busy cascading syn-pluck with rolling 32nd notes; panning snare and toms fill with tight 32nd-note repeats
