Harmonic Activity 122 BPM - 4/4 Jazz-Rock/Fusion Brass
hand diagram
This mid-tempo Jazz-Rock/Fusion Performance features a laid-back bass guitar pattern with harmonics that creates an introspective mood. The mellow atmospheric vibe is rounded out by a jazzy, sidestick-driven acoustic drum groove with ride cymbal & cabasa, a synth pattern that drives a modified voice that triggers several different wavesamples seperated by velocity to create an ambient atmosphere (Synth 1), a second, more staccato synth pattern which compliments Synth 1, also triggering a multi-wave voice (Synth 2) and a simple, sparse wurlitzer electric piano pattern with KARMA panning. The Fill button provides different complimentary drum fills, with RT Switch 8 in the Master Layer controlling whether the fill is all toms, or snare and toms.

The LH/KARMA area provides a synthy vocal pad, while two different soloing experiences are provided in the RH area: a mellow mono legato trumpet with vibrato (A.Sw2 = off) and a polyphonic acoustic piano (A.Sw2 = on). A.Sw1 increases resonance on the non-harmonic Bass notes, while adding portamento to Synth 1 for an alternate tonal variation. In this Performance, the A.Switches are not set to be stored in the scenes, so they can be freely toggled on and off at any time without scene changes affecting them - so you'll find the trumpet in all scenes.
Left Hand: Vocal "haah" pad
Right Hand: Legato trumpet (mono) (A.Sw2 = off)
Acoustic piano (poly) (A.Sw2 = on)

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger a busy resonant synth arp, while Pads 13 to 16 trigger a picked electric guitar pattern with a tremolo/rotary speaker effect* - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and can be layered on top of each other.
  • Tone 1 Knob 8 adds an interesting beat-synchronized delay effect to the Drums/Perc and Fill. *Rotary speaker not available on MOX version due to IFX limitations.
  • Try Master Layer Slider 2 Rhythm Complexity and Slider 4 Velocity Accents (Real-Time Controls Editor) at the top and bottom for alternate variations.
  • The Bass line and harmonics in the Startup Scene works best with minor chords, as demonstrated by the Chord Triggers. For a different transposition of the harmonic notes that is more neutral with respect to both major and minor chords, turn on the specially programmed Switch 4 Note Scale Type in Module 2's RT Control Layer.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - shaker, single bass notes, synth 2 takes the focus with a busy bouncy chord pattern while synth 1 plays sporadic malletish-sounding chords and the e.piano adds a sparse two-note motif; high-pitched sparse snare/tom fill with tight delays ending in bell tree
Scene 2 (simpler) - shaker and tambourine, short bass notes in octaves as synth 1 takes the focus with some velocity switched chords, synth 2 plays a gated chord pattern, and the e.piano adds sparse left/right notes; pitch-bending syncopated snare and toms fill
Scene 3 (simpler) - simple hi-hat keeping time with short bass notes in octaves as the e.piano takes the focus with a repetitive ostinato figure, while synth 1 and provides sparse chords and synth 2 plays an ostinato as well; pitch-bending snare and toms fill
Scene 4 (simpler) - backbeat sidestick with hi-hats and hand drums, sustained bass line without harmonics, precolating synth 1 and synth 2 chords, left/right e.piano notes; 8th-note toms fill on top of sidestick and ride
Scene 5 (startup) - driving sidestick and ride drums groove, bass line takes center stage with open strings and harmonics, percolating synth 1 and synth 2 chords, left/right e.piano notes; 8th-note toms fill on top of sidestick and ride
Scene 6 (busier) - switches to a more normal, driving kick and snare rock groove with congas and clave, a driving single-note bass line, and variations for the two synth parts and e.piano; busier syncopated snare and tom fill
Scene 7 (busiest) - kicks up the activity with a busier drum groove with agogo bells and ride, octave bass notes, higher octaves in the synth 1 and synth 2 parts, and a wider-voiced e.piano phrase; busier syncopated snare and tom fill
Scene 8 (breakdown) - spacey open variation on the startup scene, with arpeggiated pitch-bending drums and perc, a different variation on the bass line with harmonics, alternating chords on synth 1 and synth 2, and an e.piano scale with atmospheric pitch bend; panning 16th-note snare and toms fill
