Higher & Farther 126 BPM - 4/4 Techno/Trance Lead Synth
hand diagram
This up-tempo European Techno/Trance Performance features multiple contrasting analog style synth voices for a rich and immersive sound: a typical Euro Techno/Trance analog style drum groove with open hi-hats, kick & snare, a busy analog synth-bass pattern doubled by a resonant synth with added delay effect, a staccato techno-style synth pattern with slow filter modulation (Synth 1), a square-wave synth lead pattern which plays every 4th bar (Synth 2), and a techno-style gated synth stab which can be heard every 3rd bar. The Fill button rounds things off with an idiomatic machine-gun snare crescendo or toms fill with different variations in each scene.

The LH/KARMA input area provides a resonant hi-pass filter sweep synth pad (latched by the sustain pedal of course), while two different lead line experiences for the RH are provided courtesy of A.Sw2: a monophonic fat and raw sawtooth synth lead with a touch of portamento (A.Sw2 = off), and a polyphonic digital spectrum pad (A.Sw2 = on). You'll find the sawtooth lead stored in scenes 5 to 8 and the digital pad in scenes 1 to 4; turn off the "Assignable Switches in Scenes" checkbox under A.Sw2 to keep the currently selected lead sound in all scenes.
Left Hand: Hi-pass filter sweep pad
Right Hand: Raw sawtooth synth lead (mono) (A.Sw2 = off)
Spectrum digital pad (poly) (A/Sw2 = on)

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 and Pads 13 to 16 trigger two different repetitive trance riffs with contrasting sounds - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and shut each other off, courtesy of the Chord Trigger exclusives - try alternating between them, for example, Pad 9 and Pad 13.
  • A.Sw1 not only transposes the RH lead sounds up an octave for an extended soling range, but it activates a tonal variation on the Synth Bass.
  • For a more continuous pattern on Synth 2, set Master Layer Switch 5 "Delay Start On/Off" to off and increase Module 4's Control Layer "Velocity Accents" (Slider 3).

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - hand drums w/arpeggiated pitch bend, sparse root notes on the bass, simple fifths figure on synth 1 with slow filter modulation while synth 2 takes the focus with a looping 16th-note trance riff and the gated synth plays some staccato octaves every 8 beats; high-pitched panning toms fill
Scene 2 (simpler) - shaker and hi-hats, sparse root notes on the bass, synth 1 plays an octaves trance riff with filter mod, synth 2 interjects a short phrase every 4 bars and the gated synth does a 2 note trill every 8 beats; 16th-note snare fill with downwards pitch-bend envelope
Scene 3 (simpler) - add some kick drums and tambourine, bass does a staccato root-third-fifth pattern, synth 1 chooses a different trance riff rhythm, synth 2 does an echoing riff every 4 bars and the gated synth stabs some high chords every 8 beats; panning 16th-note toms fill
Scene 4 (simpler) - 4 on the floor kick with open hi-hat pattern and tambourine, root note syncopated bass line, synth 2 takes the focus with a descending/ascending riff every 4 bars, while synth 1 percolates in the background and the gated synth sounds a three-note motif every 8 beats; machine-gun snare fill with downwards pitch-bend envelope
Scene 5 (startup) - the full groove with techno drums and bass, synth 1 providing a constant riff with filter-sweep while synth 2 and the gated synth interject short phrases at different intervals; machine-gun crescendo snare fill
Scene 6 (busier) - drums pickup the energy with a driving percussion pattern, the bass moves to a double-upbeat, synth 1 plays a root/octave line with filter modulation while synth 2 and the gated synth provide variations on their periodic phrases; machine-gun crescendo snare fill with more 32nds
Scene 7 (busier) - drums change kick and snare and add clap noise, bass plays a syncopated rhythm on the root, synth 1 plays a wide voiced anthemic trance riff while synth 2 and the gated synth provide variations on their periodic phrases; machine-gun crescendo snare fill with downwards pitch bend envelope
Scene 8 (busiest) - drums change to rides and stick/clap, bass plays a busy accented octaves pattern, synth 1 plays a climbing anthemic trance riff while again synths 2 and the gated synth provide different variations on their periodic phrases; 32nd note crescendoing machine-gun snare with upwards pitch-bend envelope and panning
