Rave Island 148 BPM - 4/4 Euro-Techno/Trance Lead Synth
hand diagram
This fast-tempo Euro Techno/Trance Performance takes its name from the "Rave" tradition popular on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza. It's built with a typical "4 on the floor" 909 techno style drum groove with kick drum and open hi-hat (adjust Master Layer Slider 5 Alternate Drum Map all the way to the bottom to add a snare to the mix), an offbeat techno synth bass pattern, an analog polysynth comping pattern with KARMA panning, an anthemic techno synth riff which acts as the main melodic focus for the performance and a "pizzicato" synth-pluck pattern which can be heard in most scenes except start-up Scene 5 (where it is muted). Module 6 provides a variety of drum fills on the Fill button, from the standard machine gun crescendo fills to toms with pitch-bend envelopes.

The LH/KARMA input area provides and anlog string pad in a higher octave to fill out the mix, while the RH area serves up two different soloing experiences controlled by A.Sw2: a monophonic analog saw lead with a bith of portamento and release (A.Sw2 = off) and a polyphonic ambient string pad with a hint of phaser* (A.Sw2 = on) - both of which can be raised up an octave for extended soloing range using A.Sw1. *No phaser on MOX version due to IFX limitations.
Left Hand: Analog string pad
Right Hand: Analog saw lead (mono) (A.Sw2 = off)
Ambient phaser* string pad (poly) (A.Sw2 = on)
Split Points: * B2/C3
Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional hip-hop style elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger a gated synth pattern with a high pass filter sweep, while Pads 13 to 16 trigger an additional techno-style synth riff - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and can be layered on top of each other.
  • Use Slider 5 "Velocity Env. Level" in RT Control Layer 6 to control the degree of the fade-in crescendo of the drum fills.
  • You can store which lead sound you want to use in each scene because the "Assignable Switches In Scenes" checkbox is on under A.Sw2 in the Real-Time Controls Editor - it is stored as the string pad in the earlier scenes 1~4 and the synth lead in scenes 5~8.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - just shakers, root notes every 4 beats on the bass, the synth comp takes the focus with a plucky panning arppeggiated melody while the synth riff plays staccato octave notes and the syn-pluck is muted; high-pitched toms fill
Scene 2 (simpler) - shakers and tambourine, bass adds a few more root notes, the synth comp moves to a simple three-note phrase and the synth riff does something similar and complimentary, while the focus is taken by the syn-pluck with a busy syncopated octaves riff; panning toms fill with downwards pitch-bend envelope
Scene 3 (simpler) - drums add a 4-on-the-floor kick while the bass settles on a two note rhythm, the synth comp plays an ascending arpeggio while the synth riff takes the focus with a high repetitive melody and the syn-pluck plays a single chord every 8 beats; "circling around the toms" fill
Scene 4 (simpler) - a simplified version of the startup scene with the kick drum removed, the back-beat bass cut to every other note and the synth comp and synth riff simplified with less activity; crescendoing snare fill wiith downwards pitch-bend envelope
Scene 5 (startup) - the basic full groove, 4-on-the-floor drums, back-beat bass, panning two note synth comp, anthemic trance riff; crescendoing machine gun snare fill
Scene 6 (busier) - drums add snare, congas and clave, bass adds some downbeats to the back-beats, synth comp goes to single notes while the synth riff does a harmonic variation of the original riff and the syn-pluck is added into the mix; faster crescendoing machine-gun snare fill
Scene 7 (busiest) - drums move to the ride cymbals and bongos, bass does a syncopated variation moving to the 7th, synth comp turns into a fast arpeggiated pattern while the synth riff plays some three-note stab chords and the syn-pluck does a much busier pattern; panning snare fill with downwards pitch-bend envelope
Scene 8 (busiest-alternate) - drums use arpeggiated pitch bend and an electronic noises perc pattern, bass introduces some space and bending, synth comp pans around two note chords, the synth riff jumps around in upper octaves with some pitch-bending while the syn-pluck introduces some chords along with single notes; panning machine gun snare fill with upwards pitch-bend envelope
