This mid-tempo, atmospheric Ambient/Electronic/Pop Performance features two different KARMA Wave sequence patterns to good effect and is based on the somewhat famous Korg M3's startup combi "Towards The Sun" - with the addition of two KARMA modules and updated scenes. It consists of a laid-back, slightly electronic sounding drum groove with ride cymbal, sidestick & shaker, a simple/minimalistic, kick accentuating synth-bass pattern, the first of our previously mentioned KARMA Wavesequence patterns (WaveSeq 1) which can be modified via the RT controls to provide a mind-boggling array of interesting classic wave-sequence patterns (as heard in all scenes), the second KARMA Wavesequence (WaveSeq 2) which is very different in that it triggers randomly selected waves and notes to provide an atmospheric cloud of "fairy-dust" sprinkled periodically throughout the Performance for an interesting ambient effect, and a comping synth pattern triggering a resonant analog polysynth style timbre (heard in most scenes except the start-up scene where it is simply muted). The Fill button provides a matching snare and toms fill with multiple variations in each scene.

A thick, swirling motion pad is provided in the LH /KARMA input area that swells and fills out the mix, while two completely different soloing experiences are provided in the RH area, controlled by A.Sw2: an acoustic piano/pwm strings layer (poly, A.Sw2 = off), and a mellow analog synth lead (mono, A.Sw2 = on). Use A.Sw1 to drop the leads down an octave for extended soloing range. You'll find the piano/strings stored in the odd-numbered scenes and the mono synth leadlead in the even-numbered scenes; turn off the "Assignable Switches in Scenes" checkbox under A.Sw2 to keep the currently selected lead sound in all scenes.

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger a simple octaves pattern on a plucky synth, while Pads 13 to 16 trigger a resonant chordal velocity-sensitive wave-sequence pattern - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and can be layered on top of each other.
  • The first six Tone 1 Knobs are all assigned to Module 3 WaveSeq 1, allowing a wide variety of tonal changes.
  • A.Sw1 is set to transpose the RH lead sounds down an octave. If you'd like them to transpose up an octave instead (for a 61 note keyboard), go to the Performance Editor > RT Parms > "P" Subpage and change the Max setting for row 5 from -12 to 12.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - shaker and tambourine, single short root bass notes; waveseq 1 cycles through pitched waveforms on a single note included e.pno, waveseq 2 is muted while the synth comp plays chords in between the bass notes; sparse snare and toms fill with tight repeats and rising pitch bend ending in triangle
Scene 2 (simpler) - drums add kick with pitch-bend, bass adds an offbeat root note, waveseq 1 changes to a different group of waveforms while switching to a melodic cyclic riff, waveseq 2 remains muted while the synth comp alternates a chord left and right; randomized panning high-pitched snare and toms fill with panning ending in vibraslap
Scene 3 (simpler) - congas and claves are added with a busier hi-hat, bass plays a staccato double root note, waveseq 1 does a more complex cycling through pitched waveforms with some chords interjected while waveseq 2 interjects some occasional noises and the synth comp is muted; randomized panning high-pitched snare and toms fill with panning
Scene 4 (simpler) - sidestick is added to the drums, bass plays a double root followed by dropping an octave, waveseq 1 goes back to a single note and lower octave with another assortment of waveforms while waveseq 2 adds noise more frequently and the synth comp plays left/right chords with a fast bend on release; 8th-note snare and toms fill with 16th-note repeats and downwards pitch envelope
Scene 5 (startup) - the wake-up scene, ride and sidestick, double root notes on the bass, panning waveseq 1 cycles through a hypnotic loop of pitched waveforms while waveseq 2 interjects sfx and ambient tones, synth comp muted; straight randomized snare and toms fill
Scene 6 (busier) - drums move to electronic snare and hi-hats with congas, bass gets a bit busier on the root, waveseq 1 cycles through a different variation of waveforms and waveseq 2 continues adding noises, module 5 synth comp is added doing a slow L/R chopping chord; busier syncopated snare and toms fill
Scene 7 (busier) - drums get more complex and switch the kick/snare for alternate sounds, different percussion, bass stays on the root but doubles up, waveseq 1 does a syncopated rhythm in fifths while waveseq2 makes more frequent noises, synth comp jumps up an octave and does a centered choppy chord rhythm; panning syncopated snare and toms fill with slight upwards pitch envelope
Scene 8 (busiest) - arpeggiated pitch-bending and tight delays on the drums create a buzzing machine-like groove while the bass plays some long downwards bending notes, waveseq 1 does a variation on the 5ths riff, waveseq 2 has bending added, and the synth comp does longer chords with bending also; 32nd-note panning snare and toms fill with upward pitch bend envelope
