The Long Road Home 106 BPM - 4/4 Pop/Soft Rock Keyboard
hand diagram
This mid-tempo Pop/Soft Rock Performance has a laid-back and mellow "Bruce Hornsby" vibe, consisting of a driving 808-style Techno/Trance drum groove with open hi-hat, a nice chugging synth bass pattern which propels the groove forward in a locomotive fashion, a dynamic, comping DX style electric piano pattern with KARMA panning, a bouncy, staccato polysynth-pluck pattern that compliments the comping electric piano, and a busy muted electric guitar pattern driving 2 separate muted guitar voices panned left & right to create a stereo effect. The Fill button provides a complimentary syncopated 808-style snare and toms fill with matching percussion and many variations in the scenes.

A grand piano and strings-pad layer is provided in the right hand span of the keyboard for soloing, which can be switched to a mono alto sax (via A.Sw2) for a completely different soloing experience - A.Sw1 drops both lead sounds down an octave. In this Performance, the A.Switches are not set to be stored in the scenes, so they can be freely toggled on and off at any time without scene changes affecting them - so you'll find the piano lead in all scenes. A complimentary piano and motion synth pad is provided in the LH/KARMA input area that nicely fills out the mix when latched with the sustain pedal.
Left Hand: Piano and motion synth pad
Right Hand: Piano/strings layer (poly) (A.Sw2 = off)
Alto sax (mono) (A.Sw2 = on)
A.Sw1 = octave down
Split Points: * B2/C3
Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger an additional melodic polysynth pattern, while Pads 13 to 16 trigger a melodic DX bell/piano pattern - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and can be layered on top of each other.
  • If you'd like the scene changes to change the lead sound, turn on the "Assignable Switches In Scenes" checkbox under A.Sw2 in the Real-Time Controls page.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - suitable for a breakdown with electronic bongos, single bass notes, single e.piano notes with bend, synth is the focus with a percolating pattern, very sparse mute-guitar notes; high-pitched snare and toms fill with bongos and tight delays
Scene 2 (simpler) - picks up a bit with triangle and tambourine percussion, syncopated single bass notes, e.piano takes the focus with some velocity sensitive clusters, synth goes to sparse single notes, mute guitar picks up with a pentatonic motif; toms and snare fill with panning and long delays
Scene 3 (simpler) - four-on-the-floor kick with percussion, bass gets a bit busier still on one note, simple e.piano comping, simple synth notes pattern, mute guitar takes the focus with a high-octave cyclic riff; syncopated jazzy snare and toms fill with panning and slight bend envelope
Scene 4 (simpler) - a simplified version of the startup groove adding open hi-hat (no snare), busier single-note bass, sparse e.piano chords, busier synth notes, mute guitar plays same riff as startup; syncopated snare and toms fill
Scene 5 (startup) - the basic full groove, chugging along and begging to be jammed with; syncopated snare and toms fill
Scene 6 (busier) - drums move to the ride cymbal and a different snare sound, bass adds extra octave notes, e.piano comps harder, synth gets a bit busier and the mute-guitar changes patterns; slightly busier snare and toms fill
Scene 7 (busier) - drums move to the ride cymbal bell and busier percussion, bass loses the octaves and throbs on a single note, e.piano plays scalic clusters, synth changes patterns and adds some higher notes, mute-guitar changes patterns; snare and toms fill adds panning
Scene 8 (busiest/breakdown) - drums add arpeggiated pitch-bend, bass adds octaves with pitch-bend, e.piano plays scalic clusters with open space, synth percolates with a different pattern and some higher notes, mute-guitar percussively hammers some chords; super-fast panning snare and toms fill with a rising pitch-bend envelope
