Things that go Pump 128 BPM - 4/4 Techno/Trance Lead Synth
hand diagram
This up-tempo Euro-style Techno/Trance Performance features not only a regular synth bass but also a "wobble bass" GE for the main synth riff to add the classic pumping effect found in a lot of Euro Techno music. It consists of a bouncy four-on-the-floor Techno drum groove with busy snare and claps, a pitch-bending 303 type synth bass pattern with KARMA filter modulation and randomised notes, the previously mentioned "wobble bass" synth riff with a KARMA-controlled filter cutoff CC pattern, a panning resonant synth arpeggio with slow KARMA filter modulation (muted in wake up Scene 5), and a sparse polysynth stab pattern which sits out every other bar forming a nice trade-off with the wobble bass courtesy of Master Layer Switch 5 "Phrase Mute On/Off [5]". A techno/electronica drum fill rounds out the ensemble on the Fill button, capable of producing various snare, toms and crescendoing snare fills as demonstrated in the scenes.

The LH/KARMA area provides a short stabbing synth "hits" sound (try repeatedly striking chords quickly) followed by a fading in spectrum pad (be sure to hold them long enough or use the sustain pedal), while the RH provides two completely different mono synth lead voices for soloing, controlled by A.Sw2: a fat sawtooth octaves lead, and a resonant swelling sawtooths lead in fourths (A.Sw2 = on). Use A.Sw1 to kick the leads up an octave for extended range.
Left Hand: Short stabbing synth hits layered with a fade-in spectrum pad
Right Hand: Octaves sawtooth lead (mono) (A.Sw2 = off)
Swelling fourths saw lead (mono) (A.Sw2 = on)
Split Points: * B2/C3
Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger a spikey staccato square wave synth pattern (panned left), while Pads 13 to 16 trigger a PWM synth lead riff (panned right) - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and can be layered on top of each other.
  • You'll find the octaves lead stored in the odd-numbered scenes and the fourths lead in the even-numbered scenes; turn off the "Assignable Switches in Scenes" checkbox under A.Sw2 to keep the currently selected lead sound in all scenes.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - shakers and hand drums with pitch-bend, single root synth bass note with bend, sparse accented notes on wobble bass, synth stab plays single notes while the arpeggio takes center stage with a rhythmic chordal pattern; widely spaced synth toms fill with tight repeats
Scene 2 (simpler) - off-beat snare noises with shaker, root bass line adds another note every 4 beats, wobble bass doubles up and tosses in some random accents with portamento, the arpeggio simplifies to a single not phrase while the synth stab takes the focus with a high-octave rhythmic chordal pattern; panning eighth-note synth toms fill with downwards pitch-bend envelope
Scene 3 (simpler) - hi-hats with hand drums and other percussion, synth bass plays a simple line with randomized pitch changes, wobble bass takes the focus with a frantic jittery line extending across two octaves while the arpeggio plays a busier syncopated phrase and the synth stabs play sparse fifths; panning busier synth toms fill with downwards pitch-bend envelope
Scene 4 (simpler) - a less-complex version of the startup scene with 4-on-the-floor kick, hats and noises, bass line with some up-beat notes, prominent wobble bass synth line, syncopated arpeggio pattern, high punctuating synth stabs; panning techno snare fill with downwards pitch-bend envelope
Scene 5 (startup) - 4-on-the-floor kick, back-beat snare noise, pick up electronic snares, busy syncopated bass line, prominent wobble bass synth line jumping octaves, synth stab providing rhythmic counterpoint, arpeggio pattern muted; panning techno snare fill
Scene 6 (busier) - back-beat noise removed but percussion added, bass line gets busier, wobble bass line does a variation, arpeggio is added with a high ostinato like pattern, synth stabs double up for more activity; crescendoing machine-gun snare fill
Scene 7 (busiest) - drums move to the ride, add back the back-beat noise, bass line continues from previous scene, wobble bass line gets crazier, arpeggio does a panning rhythmic chordal pattern, synth stabs move to a higher octave; layered panning snare and toms fill with pitch-bend envelope
Scene 8 (half-time) - a heavy alternate groove with half-time drums, perc and noises, half-time sustained bass notes with pitch bend, a hafl-time wobble bass line, a slow arpeggio pattern with pitch-bend and high synth stab chords; layered snare and toms eighth-note fill with tight repeats
