Wave Safari 104 BPM - 4/4 Electronic/Pop Slow Synth
hand diagram
This captivating mid-tempo Electronic/Pop Performance features two KARMA Wavesequence GEs working together to good effect to create a veritable "Wave Safari." A House-style drum groove with open hats, triangle & hand percussion driving an electronic 808 type kit is mated with a fairly busy synth bass pattern driving a mellow sounding sine-bass timbre to form the rhythm section, while a busy KARMA Wavesequence pattern with a spikey sync-wave quality (WaveSeq 1), a second more staccato KARMA Wavesequence pattern triggering a variety of synth waves (WaveSeq 2), and a rhythmic vocoder style synth pattern with velocity-controlled filter modulation round out the mix. A fairly syncopated analog drum kit fill is provided on the Fill button with many alternate variations in the scenes.

The LH/KARMA input area is mapped with a layered bells and analog strings pad, while two different lead line experiences for the RH are provided courtesy of A.Sw1: an ethereal airy-synth pad that can be played polyphonically (A.Sw1 = off), and a monophonic mellow analog "wind-synth" timbre (A.Sw1 = on). You'll find the airy-synth pad in the odd-numbered scenes and the mono synth lead in the even-numbered scenes.
Left Hand: Bell/strings pad
Right Hand: Ethereal airy-synth pad (poly) (A.Sw1 = off)
Mellow analog lead (mono) (A.Sw1 = on)

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger a staccato square-wave synth pattern, while Pads 13 to 16 trigger a busy gated synth pattern with a one-shot filter sweep - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and can be layered on top of each other.
  • The RH lead sound can be switched using A.Sw1, instead of A.Sw2 where we usually have it assigned, because A.Sw2 does an interesting effects modulation to the bass and drums.
  • If you'd like the lead sounds to not be changed by the scenes, turn off the "Assignable Switches In Scenes" checkbox under A.Sw1 in the Real-Time Controls Editor.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - kick drum, sparse bass notes, waveseq 1 takes the focus with a climbing chordal pattern while waveseq 2 plays some sparse perc and synth notes and the syn-voice mainly plays a ingle note with some spitting sounds; panning 16th-note snare and toms fill with repeats and pitch-bend ending in SFX
Scene 2 (simpler) - add sidestick and shaker, bass gets busier, waveseq 2 takes the focus with a bunch of different sounds from bells to echoing percussion while waveseq 1 plays simple chords and the syn-voice does a simple 5ths pattern; syncopated16th-note toms fill with panning and downwards bend envelope ending in SFX
Scene 3 (simpler) - add electronic hi-hats and handdrums, bending syncopated bass line, syn-voice takes the focus with a chopping "talking" chordal line while the two wavesequence parts make a variety of interweaving notes and sounds; syncopated 16th-note toms fill
Scene 4 (simpler) - a somewhat simpler variation of the startup scene, with the snare removed, the bass line providing more space, the two wavesequence parts also providing more space while the syn-voice plays a mono spitting line with pitch-bend; panning syncopated 16th-note toms and snare fill
Scene 5 (startup) - the full groove with analog drums, safari congas, bouncing bass line, interweaving double wavesequence patterns, a spitting syn-syn-voice part that plays a chord every four beats; syncopated 16th-note toms and snare fill
Scene 6 (busier) - drums change the snare to a clap and congas to a bongos, the bass gets busier and sticks more to the root, the two wavesequences change variations while the syn-voice part doubles up and adds pitch-bend; panning straighter 16th-note toms and snare fill
Scene 7 (busier) - drums change to sidestick and rides with arpeggiated pitch bend, bass plays a varaition on the root, octave and second octave, waveseq 1 plays a 16th-note arpeggio while waveseq 2 plays sparser sounds and the syn-voice does a chopping variation; panning 32nd-note toms and snare fill with rising pitch-bend envelope
Scene 8 (busiest) - the safari is really moving now with house snare pickups and bongos, driving synth bass line, syncopated waveseq 1 with bending, high notes on waveseq 2 and a mono variation on the syn-voice; heavy panning 16th-note toms and snare fill with looping pitch-bend envelope ending in space zap
