This slow tempo R&B love song Performance with a Hip-Hop flavor consists of a solid analog drum machine groove featuring hand-claps, and a simple percussive organ bass pattern that accentuates the kick drum. Three complimentary synth parts provide the melodic content: a staccato resonant analog synth arpeggio named Synth 1, a panning octaves string-synth pattern named Synth 2 and a resonant analog synth-stab playing chords named Synth 3 (you can use Master Layer Switch 5 "Step Transpose" to turn On/Off the fourth transposition at the end of the pattern - it's set that way in several scenes). The Fill button provides a complimentary analog drum kit fill with variations in the scenes.

A nice piano/string layer is provided in the RH area for soloing, which can be changed to a mono rap saw lead with heavy portamento using A.Sw2, for a completely different soloing feel. You'll find that Scenes 2, 7 and 8 have been set to call up the mono lead, while the other scenes call up the piano/string layer. The LH/KARMA area has a simply tremolo E.Piano assigned. The eight different scene variations provide some distinctively different parts for song construction and jamming pleasure.

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Pads 9 to 12 and 13 to 16 trigger two different Motif arp synth riffs with portamento, in various scale steps, which shut each other off, in addition to being stopped by a scene change or fill.
  • Assignable Switch 2 changes the RH sound from a piano/string layer to a mono saw lead w/portamento. This is accomplished by having two different parts/tracks set up for the RH area in the Motif Song, on different MIDI Channels, and configuring KARMA's Dynamic MIDI Page and Perf RTP Page to change the MIDI Channel by A.Sw2. Furthermore, the setting is stored in each scene courtesy of the "Assignable Switches In Scenes" checkbox in the RTC Editor.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - simple percussion, very low activity in all modules (featuring synth 1), a single bending bass note; sparse toms fill with 16th note delay
Scene 2 (simpler) - the groove picks up with electronic congas and hi-hats, more activity in the bass and synths; sparse panning pitch-bend fill
Scene 3 (simpler) - more activity with the kick being introduced, along with pitch-bending cymbals, chords on synth 2; randomized busier fill
Scene 4 (startup) - the basic full groove; straight analog drum fill
Scene 5 (busier) - building off of the startup groove, a busier variation with more activity, tambourine and perc add, synth 1 provides some interesting percussive effects and synth 3 drops an octave; busier straight analog fill
Scene 6 (busier) - a completely different vibe, with the drums adding the snare and stick, a moving 3rds bass line, syncopated plucky synth 1 part, pitch-bending notes on Synth 2; panning fill
