This slow tempo Hip-Hop/R&B Performance has an orchestral flavor, consisting of a solid ride-cymbal driven Hip-Hop groove, a simple kick accentuating sub-bass pattern, a classical piano arpeggio pattern doing 16th notes, a pizzicato string pattern with plenty of space between the notes and an analog sounding synth arpeggio pattern which appears periodically to add some atmospherics to the mix. The Fill button triggers a complimentary snare and toms fill.

The LH/KARMA area provides a lush strings pad, while the RH area provides two different lead sounds for soloing and melody lines, controlled by A.Sw2: a polyphonic flute/strings layer in keeping with the orchestral vibe, and a monophonic dual-square wave lead with portamento. You'll find that the odd-numbered scenes call up the flute/strings layer, while the even-numbered scenes call up the square wave lead. A.Sw1 drops them both down an octave when you want to get into the lower ranges (which is not stored in the scenes, but can be toggled at any time).

Motif Arps/Special Notes
  • Two Motif arps can be added as additional elements: Pads 9 to 12 trigger an analog dance riff and Pads 13 to 16 trigger a repetitive chord effect - both of which have ascending scale steps based on the last-played chord and shut each other off, courtesy of the Chord Trigger exclusives - try alternating between them, for example, Pad 9 and Pad 13.
  • Assignable Switch 2 changes the RH sound from a flute/string layer to a mono dual-square wave lead w/portamento. This is accomplished by having two different parts/tracks set up for the RH area in the Motif Song, on different MIDI Channels, and configuring KARMA's Dynamic MIDI Page and Perf RTP Page to change the MIDI Channel by A.Sw2. Also, since the "Assignable Switch In Scenes" checkbox is on under A.Switch 2 in the Real-Time Controls Editor, this setting is stored in the scenes.

Scenes (Master) Description
Scene 1 (simplest) - shakers, a heartbeat thump provided by the bass, dotted eighth octave pizzicatto plucks, single piano chord and an arpeggiated synth riff; panning sparse high-pitched randomized fill
Scene 2 (simpler) - tambourine/clave, kick-like thump from bass, pizzicato takes focus with a busier pattern, single climbing piano notes, echoing synth, panning high-pitched fill with delays
Scene 3 (simpler) - kick drum is introduced, bass becomes audible playing off the root and 7th, repetitive piano riff, more echoing on the synth, simple echoing pattern on pizzicato, pitch-bending downwards snare and toms fill
Scene 4 (simpler) - hi-hats and noise-snare are added to the groove, which is basically a simpler version of the next scene, bass accentuates the kick, a lot of space in the pizzicato part, repetitive piano figure; rising pitch-bending fill
Scene 5 (startup) - the basic full groove; straight snare and tom fill
